These insights have been further folded into his work at the juncture of social initiatives and scientific research, through the Mind Science Foundation (MSF) in San Antonio, Texas. Drawing on his time working with K-2 students, Tin has been learning about scientific tools at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, to understand how early life experiences, such as coming from poverty or other disadvantaged circumstances, can impact brain development, childhood development, and eventual adult functioning. These background experiences have led to Tin’s involvement with Daybreak Arts.

Artist Advisors

In 2020, after having difficulty finding people who had experienced homelessness to serve on our Board, we developed and launched an “Artist Advisor” Board position with the goal of providing participating artists in our organization a platform to offer the Board of Directors direct insight and feedback about program decisions from the point of view of someone currently participating. The Artist Advisors serve as non-voting advisory board members. Artist Advisors can become a full voting board member once they have transitioned out of the Artist Collective program and are no longer receiving income or services. Advisory board members can be nominated by staff, other artists, or self nominated and the artists in the Collective elect one of their peers to represent them. Two artists serve on the advisory board at a time for two years with staggered terms.
